Hi, my name is Selena, and I'm a Service Canada employee.
Have you lost your job?
(Cut to a close-up of the Host.)
...We're here to help guide you through the process
of applying for Employment Insurance benefits
while you search for a new job.

(LINE DRAWING GRAPHIC: words Employment Insurance appear on screen. Desk appears with computer and stickman begins to type)
...Now, it's important that you apply
for Employment Insurance, more commonly known as EI,
as soon as you stop working.
...The sooner you apply, the sooner you'll know if you're
eligible and the sooner you can start receiving benefits.
...So let's get started!
(Stickman continues to type)
Whether you apply from your home computer,
(A door with a Service Canada sign hanging above appears on screen)
a computer at our nearby Service Canada Centre,
or from a public location like your local library,
the application process is the same.
(A door with a Service Canada sign hanging above appears on screen)
And if you have any questions about how to complete
the online form, the online "help" instructions
can usually answer them.
Our goal is to make this process go as smoothly
as possible for you.
(Cut to a medium shot of the Host. LINE DRAWING GRAPHIC: In succession the following images appear in tandem with text: social insurance card, a framed picture of a woman (drawn), image of a home, an ATM with blinking words “Direct Deposit”)
...Now, before you start filling out the online application,
there's some information you'll need to have handy.
For example...
...your Social Insurance Number.
If your Social Insurance Number begins with a "9,"
you'll also need to provide proof of your immigration
status in Canada, as well as a current work permit...
...You'll need your mother's maiden name.
...You'll also need your mailing address,
as well as your residential address, if it's different...
...You'll need your banking information,
including branch details and your chequing
or savings account number.
(LINE DRAWING GRAPHIC: Cut to a close-up of the stick person typing on the computer.)
...If you lost your job in the last year for any other reason
than lay off or company closure,
you'll need to explain why...

(LINE DRAWING GRAPHIC: the stick person continues to type on the computer.)
...And if there are any weeks during the last year when you
did not work, and you did not receive any earnings,
you'll need to provide us with the dates and the reasons why.
(Cut to a medium shot of the Host. LINE DRAWING GRAPHIC: record of employment form animates out from the computer screen.)
...You'll also need your Records of Employment
from every employer you've worked for in the last year.
If you haven't received all your Records of Employment
yet, still submit your EI application immediately.
You can always submit your Records of Employment later.
(Stickman walks through a door with Service Canada sign hanging above.)
...You can either mail them in to the address that appears
on the online application, or hand them in at your local
Service Canada Centre.
But, if your employer completes your Record of
Employment electronically you won't need a paper copy
as we receive it directly.
(Cut to a medium shot of the Host. LINE DRAWING GRAPHIC: computer screen. Actual My Service Canada Account icon appears. An arrow points to the icon to click.)
...To see electronic versions of your Records of Employment,
you can register for a My Service Canada Account.
(Cut to a medium shot of the Host. LINE DRAWING GRAPHIC: the large animated ‘Apply for Employment Insurance Benefits’ link appears over actual Service Canada page. The link shrinks down and morphs into the actual link on the Service Canada page.)
...Okay, so you've gathered all the information
you need to fill out your EI application.
Now, to get your application started, simply...
...click on the "Apply for Employment Insurance Benefits"
link on our Service Canada home page...
...And you're ready to roll!
...At Service Canada, we're people serving people.
(Stickman bows. Dip to black.)
