Newborn Registration Service
Available only in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Nova Scotia, Québec and Manitoba.
Parents of newborns in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Nova Scotia, Québec and Manitoba only can now get convenient bundled services from Service Canada and its partners, Service Alberta, the British Columbia Vital Statistics Agency, ServiceOntario, the Vital Statistics Registry of Nova Scotia, the Directeur de l’état civil (Services Québec) and the Manitoba Vital Statistics Agency.
You can use the Newborn Registration Service to complete your child's Birth Registration and apply for your child's Social Insurance Number (SIN) card. For the provinces of British Columbia and Ontario, you also have the option to apply for your child's Birth Certificate.
NOTE: You must be the parent of the child and a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident to use this service. If you are not a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident, you may still be eligible but you will need to visit a Service Canada Center to apply for your child's SIN.
With this integrated application, you can avoid going to different levels of government and entering the same information over and over again on separate application forms. The service is simple, convenient and secure!
NOTE: For Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Nova Scotia and Manitoba, the SIN card will reflect all the names provided on the Birth Registration form. For Quebec, the SIN card will reflect the “usual given name” and “surname” provided on the Declaration of Birth form. If you need to modify the name on your child’s SIN card, you will need to apply for your child’s SIN directly through Service Canada.
