What should I do if there is no trustee or receiver appointed in my employer's bankruptcy or receivership?
In this situation, you are not eligible for the WEPP, but you may ask for assistance under federal or provincial labour standards legislation. Contact information for provincial and territorial labour standards offices are listed below.
If you are employed in one of the following activities or industries, you are probably working in a federally regulated sector:
- banks;
- marine shipping, ferry and port services;
- air transportation, including airports, aerodromes and airlines;
- railway and road transportation that involves crossing provincial or international borders;
- canals, pipelines, tunnels and bridges (crossing provincial borders);
- telephone, telegraph and cable systems;
- radio and television broadcasting;
- grain elevators, flour and seed mills, feed warehouses and grain-seed cleaning plants;
- uranium mining and processing;
- businesses dealing with the protection of fisheries as a natural resource;
- many First Nation activities;
- most federal Crown corporations;
- private businesses necessary to the operation of a federal act.

If you do not work in one of the previously mentioned activities or industries, the employment standards that regulate your conditions of work are defined by your provincial or territorial ministry of labour. You should refer to the labour standards office of the province or territory in which you work.
