Before you apply
You will need to gather the following personal information:
- your Social Insurance Number (if applying by phone, in person, or by mail);
- the name of your bank or financial institution; and
- the transit number of your branch and your account number.
How to apply
You can sign up for direct deposit online, by phone, in person, or by mail.
Online
Log in to My Service Canada Account. If you don’t already have an account, before you register you will need:
- a 4-digit EI access code (printed in the shaded area at the bottom of your Benefit Statement that is mailed to you after you apply for EI benefits); OR
- a 7-digit personal access code. If you do not have one, you can request a personal access code online.
