Souris HRC for Students - Open for Business

Date: May 16 2002
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Souris, PEI - The Souris Human Resource Centre for Students (HRC-S) will officially open on May 16, 2002. The Office is ready to assist businesses and youth with their summer employment needs. Last year, the Souris HRC-S filled over 64 jobs with secondary and post-secondary students.

"Since 1968, young people have come to us for help in finding summer employment," said Sara O'Connor, Summer Employment Officer. "In the coming weeks, Summer Employment Officers will be contacting local employers to discuss their summer employment needs and to make them aware that our office is open and ready to assist them in any way it can."

HRC-S offices link youth and employers. They provide young people with job opportunities, interview advice, résumé building, job search strategies and offer job-posting and pre-screening services to employers. All of our services are provided free of charge.

"There is an ever-increasing demand for a skilled and adaptable workforce," said the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, MP for Cardigan. "The skills, talents, knowledge and creativity of our young people are key to our future success. By working with local employers to help students develop their skills and get valuable summer work experience, we are helping them prepare for the rapidly changing world of work."

This year, the HRC-S office will be located at 173 Main Street in the MacPhee Mall. Our hours of operation are 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Employers interested in using our services and students looking for summer employment can contact the Souris Office at 902-687-7203.

The Human Resources Development Canada Offices for Students are part of the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy. The Strategy is a key initiative of Knowledge Matters, the Government of Canada's Skills & Learning Agenda.
