Kevin

Being actively involved in many of the organized skating programs and a keen fan of the local hockey teams, Kevin (pictured foreground) spent most of his winter days at the Queens Memorial Arena.
He often assisted the manager and staff with some of the operations required to efficiently run the rink. When the LQACPWD was approached by another agency in the community asking for help to find paid work experience for Kevin to further enhance his employment opportunities, it was the perfect fit.
With the assistance of funding provided through the Opportunities Fund (OF), Kevin is now employed and is learning new and valuable employment skills in a job he loves.
Daniel

Daniel has been building boats for most of his adult life and has developed a wonderful talent for the finer aspects of boat design and construction. He had to leave the industry for a time due to a physical injury, and was eager to start back with his own business when he was able.
With assistance through the LQACPWD, Daniel received an Entrepreneurial Income Supplement during his first year of business while he was developing his customer base.
Today he is selling his canoes to buyers as far away as Germany, and the demand is growing.
“Well done Dan.”
Anthony

Anthony had worked with the LQACPWD in the past to help him find employment. In 2005, he made the decision to return to school. Anthony was accepted in the new Forestry Course offered at the Nova Scotia Community College – Lunenburg Campus, and he has found his passion, learning! He is enjoying his course and doing so well he plans to take Year 2 – Forestry Management.
The staff of the Action Council say it’s a pleasure to be a part of Anthony’s journey and wish him success in his new role in the Forestry Industry.
Troy

After Troy was injured and unable to return to his job, he came to the LQACPWD for assistance to identify career options. He decided to take the Law and Security course at the Nova Scotia Community College – Truro campus. After doing an excellent job in preparing his Return-to-Work Action Plan, Troy went to school in September 2005 and has excelled, placing at the top of his class! His self confidence and professional demeanor will ensure his success in his new profession.
Staff at the Action Council are happy to have been a part of his journey on the path to success.
Ian

Ian came to the LQACPWD office for assistance to identify career options in 2005. As he did his labour market information research, Ian learned that his disability would not interfere with him becoming a long haul truck driver. His easy-going personality, positive attitude and love of driving made this a wise choice for him.
Upon completing his program he had a successful internship and was immediately hired by the same company! “Congratulations Ian!”
