Jeff Sparks - a New Brunswick Region Opportunities Fund Success Story

Jeff is much more than proof of the adage “if you want something done, give it to a busy person.” He credits his ability to multi-task and to manage his busy lifestyle to the position he obtained in 2002, through a work experience with the Opportunities Fund program.

That summer, Jeff was the Disability Awareness Week Coordinator for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada, in the Atlantic Region. He wrote and distributed news releases, developed media kits and designed posters. This challenging and valuable experience gave him the opportunity to make contacts in his community and he feels that it helped him gain more self confidence.

Jeff went on to get a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a Masters in Industrial Relations. However, he returned to the site of his Opportunities Fund position at Muscular Dystrophy Canada, only this time, to take on two roles: Community Development Coordinator and National Manager of Chapter Development.

Jeff maintains a very active schedule juggling these two positions, and people wonder how he gets everything done. But, he is proud of his productive life and enjoys helping others through the same channels that once helped him. Thanks to the Opportunities Fund, Jeff enjoys a fulfilling job where he is appreciated by his employer and by colleagues.
