Age of eligibility for the Allowance and the Allowance for the Survivor based on date of birth
The age of eligibility for the Allowance (ALW) and the Allowance for the Survivor (ALWS) for those born on or before March 31, 1963, will remain at 60.
The age of eligibility for the ALW and ALWS for those born between April 1, 1963, and January 31, 1967 gradually increase.
The age of eligibility for ALW and ALWS applicants born on or after February 1, 1967, will be 62.
People who are eligible to receive the ALW or ALWS will continue to receive these benefits until they become eligible for Old Age Security (OAS) and Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) benefits.
