Detention Benefit

The Detention Benefit is a tax-free lump sum payment awarded to Canadian Forces members or veterans who, while serving in the Forces, were detained by an enemy or evaded capture.

Eligibility Information

Recipients must have:

• been detained by an enemy, opposing force, person or a group carrying out a terrorist activity; or
  
• evaded capture or escaped from any power.
