The Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGS) Program - Doctoral Scholarships provides scholarships to doctoral students who have achieved academic excellence in their undergraduate and graduate studies in the field of social sciences and humanities.

Eligibility Information
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada
- be registered in, or applying to, a full-time doctoral program or a combined master's/doctoral program in the social sciences and humanities, offered at a recognized Canadian university
- be pursuing their first doctoral degree
- not have received funding for doctoral studies, or their equivalent, from the SSHRC, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), or the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)
- not be under SSHRC sanction for misconduct relating to funding research
- not be applying in the 2009-10 academic year for funding from the NSERC or the CIHR
- not be pursuing a degree in a program that combines graduate and undergraduate studies
- other criteria may apply
Application Information
- Candidates who are currently registered at a university must apply through their university.
- All other candidates must apply directly to SSHRC.
Dates and Deadlines
- Scholarships will be awarded in May 2010, September 2011 and January 2011.
- For candidates registered at a university, the application deadline is established by the university.
- For all other candidates, the deadline for the 2009-2010 application period was November 5, 2009. The application deadline for 2010-2011 has not yet been established.
