Skilled trades

Provincial and territorial apprenticeship authorities are responsible for training and certification for skilled trades in Canada. They can provide information about trades and qualifications in their province/territory.

The Canadian Apprenticeship Forum brings together all the players in apprenticeship training. It provides information for young Canadians considering an apprenticeship, apprentices, and other stakeholders.

Skills Canada promotes skilled trades and technology careers to Canadian youth. It provides information about the skilled trades and links to trade-related resources. Skills Canada also organizes an annual skills competition.

Human Resources and Skills Development Canada supports and promotes the skilled trades through a variety of policies and programs.

Financial support

In addition to the apprenticeship grants, apprentices may be eligible to receive income support during periods of in-school apprenticeship training through Employment Insurance (EI).

The Tradesperson's Tools Deduction provides help to cover the cost of new tools in certain trades.
