Apprenticeship Completion Grant - FAQ - Applying
Am I eligible for more than one Apprenticeship Completion Grant?
No. The Apprenticeship Completion Grant (ACG) is a one-time taxable cash grant of $2,000 maximum. It is available to apprentices who have successfully completed their apprenticeship program and have obtained their journeyperson certification in a designated Red Seal trade on or after January 1, 2009
I am currently a high school student. Am I eligible for the ACG?
No. Individuals enrolled as regular, full-time high school students are not eligible for the ACG.
However, if you are an apprentice enrolled in adult learning or professional upgrading classes or a Quebec apprentice completing your vocational training diploma (Diplôme d'études professionnelles), you are not considered a high school student. If you meet all the other eligibility requirements, you can apply for the ACG.
I am a trade qualifier. Why am I not eligible?
Trade qualifiers are not eligible for the ACG because they do not complete their apprenticeship program as a registered apprentice.
The ACG and the Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG) programs are meant to help cover some of the tuition, travel, and tool costs associated with being a registered apprentice. These grants are intended to encourage apprentices to complete their apprenticeship program and receive their journeyperson certification in a designated Red Seal trade.
For more information about trade qualifiers, contact your provincial/territorial apprenticeship authority.
Do I need a Red Seal to be eligible for the ACG?
No. You do not need a Red Seal to be eligible for the grant. However, you do need to obtain your certification in a trade that is designated Red Seal in your province or territory.
I have just completed the final year of a two-year apprenticeship program in a designated Red Seal trade (for example, hairstylist). Am I eligible for both the second-level AIG and the ACG?
Yes, you may be eligible; however, you must complete two separate applications and provide the necessary supporting documentation with each application submitted. See the supporting documents section of this website for more information.
Do I have to receive the AIG in order to be eligible for the ACG?
No. You are eligible for the ACG if you have completed your apprenticeship program and receive your journeyperson certification in a designated Red Seal trade, whether or not you have previously received the AIG.
As I am an Ontario apprentice, I am not eligible for the second level of the AIG because I am not registered for more than 24 months. However, I have completed my apprenticeship program and received my Certificate of Apprenticeship. Am I eligible for the ACG?
Yes. Ontario apprentices who have completed an apprenticeship program in less than 2 years may be eligible for the ACG before being eligible for the second level of the AIG. If you have completed your apprenticeship but are not registered for more than 24 months, you may apply right now for the ACG but you will have to wait until the 24 month delay to submit your application for the second level of the AIG.
