What documents do I need to provide?

To apply for the apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG) you will need to:

  1. select your Province or Territory (in which you are registered as an apprentice)
  2. note the Issuing Apprenticeship Authority
  3. provide documentation that shows proof of registration as defined by the province or territory in which you are registered as an apprentice.
  4. provide documentation that demonstrates progression of year (level) one or year (level) two, such as a letter or other official document from your apprenticeship authority.

Please note: The supporting documents outlined below are issued by the Provincial/Territorial Apprenticeship Issuing Authority. Service Canada does not have the authority to rename any document found in the table below. The majority of provinces do not have the obligation to make documents available in both official languages, therefore they are presented to you in the format provided by the issuing authority.

ALBERTA Apprenticeship and Industry Training, Government of Alberta, Department of Advanced Education and Technology Copy of the Apprentice Identification Card. A signed copy of the Period Completion Letter. (the period technical training letter is not acceptable)

NOTE: 2-nd year AB Hairstylists must provide the Certificate of Qualification to prove progression.
BRITISH COLUMBIA Industry Training Authority (ITA) Government of British Columbia  Same as proof of progression. A signed copy of the ITA Confirmation of Progression Letter.
MANITOBA Apprenticeship Branch, Government of Manitoba, Department of Entrepreneurship, Training and Trade Copy of the Apprenticeship Registration Card. Copy of the Level Completion Letter signed by the Executive Director of the MB Apprenticeship Branch.
NEW BRUNSWICK Department of Post -Secondary Education, Training and Labour Government of New Brunswick Copy of the Pocket Identification Card. Copy of the official signed Level Completion Letter.
NEWFOUNDLAND & LABRADOR Department of Education, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Copy of the ID Wallet Card. Copy of signed letter of Confirmation of Block/Level Completed Letter for Block/Level 1

OR

Copy of signed letter of Confirmation of Block/Level Completed Letter Block/Level 2

NOTE: Apprentice must request this letter in advance.
NORTHWEST TERRITORIES Apprenticeship, Trade & Occupation Certification Board, Government of Northwest Territories Department of Education, Culture and Employment For a 1st year grant, a copy of the Certificate of Status for the Second Level. Same as registration document.
For a 2nd year grant, a copy of the Certificate of Status for the Third Level. Same as registration document.
NOVA SCOTIA Department of Skills and Learning Branch, Government of Nova Scotia Copy of the ID Wallet Card. Copy of Record of Progress Letter.
NUNAVUT Government of Nunavut For a 1st year grant, a copy of the Certificate of Status for the Second Period Level. Same as registration document.
For a 2nd year grant, a copy of the Certificate of Status for the Third Period Level. Same as registration document.
ONTARIO Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU). Copy of both sides of the Registration Wallet Card.

OR IF APPLICABLE:

Date of Registration Letter.

* To be eligible for the Level 1 grant, you will need to have been registered as an apprentice for at least 12 months and at least 24 months for the Level 2 grant.

 Copy of the official MTCU Confirmation of In-School Training Letter,

OR

a student College Transcript/Letter 

OR

Union Letter (showing your name, courses you attended for that level with a clear indication of a pass mark, end date of training, and the training delivery institution name and address).

OR IF APPLICABLE:

Copy of the letter which confirms you have been exempted for technical in-school training (MTCU or college exemption test letter or MTCU Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition – PLAR letter).
PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND Government of Prince Edward Island, Department of Education Copy of the cover page and page 4 of the apprentice's Log Book. Signed copy of the Apprenticeship Incentive Grant Letter.
QUEBEC Commission de la construction du Québec(CCQ) Copy of both sides of the Certificat de compétence apprenti Signed copy of Attestation de réussite 1er ou 2ème niveau letter
Emploi-Québec Compulsory Trades : Copy of the EQ carte d'apprenti. Signed copy of lettre officielle de progression fournie par Emploi-Québec.

Voluntary Trades: Copy of the EQ l'entente relative au Programme d'apprentissage with Employer.

or

Copy of the EQ apprentice registration form : Formulaire d'inscription - Programme d'apprentissage en milieu de travail.		 Signed copy of lettre officielle de progression fournie par Emploi-Québec.
SASKATCHEWAN Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission For a 1st year grant, a copy of your Y2 Card. Same as registration document.
For a 2nd year grant, a copy of your Y3 Card. Same as registration document.
YUKON Apprenticeship and Tradespersons Qualification, Advanced Education, Government of  Yukon Copy of the Registration Card. Signed copy of Letter of Level Completion Confirmation.
