How do I apply for a grant?

To prepare for your application online, you must be able to:

  1. Meet eligibility criteria; for a complete list of eligibility criteria, click here
  2. Provide proof of registration in a designated Red Seal Trade
  3. Provide proof of progression in your apprenticeship program for the level for which you are applying.

Once you have received the appropriate supporting documents from your provincial or territorial apprenticeship authority, you may apply online.

Complete the online application, and mail or deliver supporting documents to Service Canada. For more information on where to send your documents, please click here.

Why apply online?

  • You can access from any computer with internet
  • It is user friendly with a help feature to coach you with drop down menus
  • The system automatically configures the application process to reflect the requirements of your identified province/territory of registration.
  • A summary page is available to print prior to clicking the “submit” button.
  • The application goes directly to the processing centre.
  • A confirmation number is generated for you, as proof of receipt of the application and for tracking purposes.

If you wish to apply for the AIG using the downloadable application form; visit the Form Section of Service Canada and enter EMP5391 in search field.

Another option is to call the dedicated Apprenticeship Grants toll-free number
