AMENDMENTS TO THE EMPLOYMENT INSURANCE REGULATIONS

AMENDMENTS
1. (1) The definition "low-earning"¹ week in subsection 77.1(2) of the Employment Insurance Regulations² is replaced by the following:
"low-earning week" means
(a) a week beginning in December 1996 in which a claimant has less than $150 of insurable earnings, excluding monies paid or payable by reason of lay-off or separation from employment, and in respect of which section 94.3 applies; or
(b) a week beginning on or after January 1, 1997 in which a claimant has less than $150 of insurable earnings, excluding monies paid or payable by reason of lay-off or separation from employment.
(2) The definition "regular-earning week"¹ in subsection 77.1(2)of the Regulations is replaced by the following:
"Regular-earning week" means
(a) a week of insurable employment of a claimant beginning before January 1, 1997, other than a week referred to in paragraph (a) of the definition "low-earning week", and a fishing insured week within the meaning of section 83 of the Unemployment Insurance Regulations as that section read of the day on which the fishing insured week began; or
(b) a week beginning on or after January 1, 1997 in which a claimant had $150 or more of insurable earnings, excluding monies paid or payable by reason of lay-off or separation from employment.
COMING INTO FORCE
2. These Regulations come into force on May 20, 1997
