AMENDMENTS TO THE EMPLOYMENT INSURANCE REGULATIONS

AMENDMENTS

1. Paragraph 77.1(4)a)1 of the Employment Insurance Regulations2 is replaced by the following:

(a) is a claimant in respect of whom a benefit period has been established under Part I of the Act on or after November 15, 1998 and who ordinarily resides in the region of Eastern Ontario, North Central Ontario, Niagara, Huron, Sudbury, Northern Ontario Eastern Quebec, Quebec, Central Quebec, Trois-Rivières, Sherbrooke, Montreal, Western Quebec, Hull, Northern Quebec, Chicoutimi-Jonquière, Eastern Nova Scotia, Central Nova Scotia, Kings, Yarmouth, Fredericton-Moncton-Saint John, Restigouche-Charlotte, Northern Manitoba, Southern Interior British Columbia, Southern Coastal British Columbia, Northern British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, Northern Saskatchewan, St. John's, Newfoundland/Labrador or the Northern Territories as set out in Schedule I; and"

2. Section 1 of SCHEDULE 1, to the Regulations is replaced by the following:

1.(1) The definitions in this subsection apply in this Schedule.

"census agglomeration" means a census agglomeration within the meaning of the Statistics Canada document entitled Standard Geographical Classification SGC 1996;

"census division" means a census division within the meaning of the Statistics Canada document entitled Standard Geographical Classification SGC 1996;

"census metropolitan area" means a census metropolitan area within the meaning of the Statistics Canada document entitled Standard Geographical Classification SGC 1996;

"census subdivision" means a census subdivision within the meaning of the Statistics Canada document entitled Standard Geographical Classification SGC 1996;

(2) For greater certainty, a reference in this schedule to the Standard Geographical Classification SGC 1996 is a reference to that document, including the Supplement to the Standard Geographicl Classification (SGC 1996)Northwest Territories and the Supplement to the Standard Geographical Classification (SGC 1996) Nunavut.

3. Section 12 of Schedule 1 to the Regulations and the heading before it are replaced by the following:    Northern Territories

12. The region of the Northern Territories, consisting of the Yukon Territory, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut."

COMING INTO FORCE

4. These Regulations come into force on the day on which they are registered.
