Welcome to the archived section for past legislative provisions of the UI/EI Act. From this web page you may access the following:
- The Employment Insurance Act as it read at the time of implementation on June 30,1996.
- The Amendments to the EI Act (Bills)
- The Unemployment Insurance Act as it read prior to the EI reform of June 30, 1996.
The parts of the Bills that have been provided are Acts - passed with the consent of the Senate and House of Commons - to amend the provisions of the Employment Insurance Act. Access to these amendments will give the user a snap shot of the wording of a section of the Employment Insurance Act at any given point in time.
These Bills are referenced throughout the current version of the Employment Insurance Act. The references are placed at the very end of the section that has been amended. They are identified by the year, the chapter of the Canada Gazette in which they are printed, followed by the section of the Bill they were placed in. (E.g. For Bill C2, look for the reference 2001, c. 5.) We have also provided links from these references in order that the user may view the wording of any amendment.
