Employment

All Canadians can receive:

  • Career Transition Assistance
Career Transition Assistance is particularly for workers with many years of experience, who have lost their job and may need retraining while receiving employment insurance (EI) regular benefits. It targets unemployed individuals who have previously been employed for a significant length of time and have made only limited use of EI. This initiative will be implemented in June in partnership with provinces and territories.
  • Employment Insurance Regular Benefits
Employment Insurance (EI) provides Regular Benefits to individuals who lose their jobs through no fault of their own (for example, due to shortage of work, seasonal or mass lay-offs) and are available for and able to work, but can't find a job.
  • Extension of EI Regular Benefits to Long-Tenured Workers
EI eligible long-tenured workers may be eligible to additional benefits if they have contributed to the Employment Insurance (EI) program for a significant period of time and have previously made limited use of EI regular benefits.
  • Job Bank Job Bank is an electronic listing of jobs provided by employers from everywhere across Canada.
  • Job Creation Partnerships
The Job Creation Partnerships (JCP) employment benefit is a program designed to support projects that will provide work experience for Employment Insurance recipients.
  • Targeted Initiative for Older Workers
The Targeted Initiative for Older Workers (TIOW) is a federal-provincial-territorial cost-shared employment program created to provide a range of employment activities for workers aged 55 to 64 who live in vulnerable communities and who have lost their jobs.
  • Targeted Wage Subsidies
The Targeted Wage Subsidies program assists Employment Insurance eligible individuals experiencing difficulty in finding work to benefit from on-the-job work experience.
  • Wage Earner Protection Program
The Wage Earner Protection Program (WEPP) will reimburse eligible workers for unpaid wages and vacation pay owed them when their employer declares bankruptcy or is subject to a receivership.
  • Employment Insurance and Workers and/or Residents Outside Canada
The Employment Insurance (EI) program may provide benefits to certain individuals who reside outside Canada if their job is insured under Canada’s EI program.
  • Working in Canada Tool
The Working in Canada tool allows users to search through job descriptions, wage rates, skill requirements, and training and job opportunities based on different occupations within specific geographic locations.
