Sustainable Development Strategy
The Government of Canada recognizes the importance of sustainable development in ensuring a high quality of life for all Canadians. In collaboration with Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC), Service Canada will contribute to the federal government's efforts to green operations by working to reduce the environmental impact of day-to-day operations.
As part of HRSDC's Sustainable Development Strategy, Service Canada will lead a series of "green operations" initiatives aimed at:
- conserving energy in the offices and buildings where Service Canada operates;
- reducing the departmental fleet's vehicle emissions;
- increasing green procurement of goods and services; encouraging green processing through the reduction of paper and energy used; and
- collaborating with communities across the country to promote environmentally friendly service delivery channels.
These initiatives will ensure the integration of sustainable development into departmental operations as well as help to meet the needs of citizens and enhance long-term community sustainability.
