You can access a wide range of government programs and services through Service Canada, and you can do this on the Internet, by telephone, in person, or by mail at one of our 329 Service Canada Centres. If communities or individuals need us to come to them, we also provide scheduled and mobile outreach services.
The Service Canada Web site provides information on a wide variety of government programs and services, as well as many electronic tools and forms. Using the Web site, you can find all the information you need quickly and easily, and you can perform many transactions using state-of-the-art, secure technology. It helps you get where you want to be by matching you to a prospective employer, helping you access the right skills training, connecting you with other support groups such as non-governmental organizations, and much more.
Service Canada wants to help you find the information you need on the services you want. If you have questions about a specific service, you may find our list of frequently requested government telephone numbers helpful. For general information about government programs and services, call our toll-free number: 1 800 O-Canada (1-800-622-6232). If you have a hearing or speech impairment and use a teletypewriter (TTY), please call 1-800-926-9105.
You can also go in person to one of our Service Canada Centres across the country, where you can get free Internet access, help on how to use the Web, and answers from our specially trained staff on almost any question about government services and benefits.
In 2007–2008, we added 33 new points of service. By March 2008, we had 329 full Service Canada Centres, 227 scheduled outreach locations, and 64 Service Canada community offices. Now, 95.4% of Canadians live within 50 kilometres of a Service Canada location, exceeding the national target of 90%.
Our outreach services bring Service Canada staff into communities on a regularly scheduled or occasional basis. Scheduled outreach brings service to communities on a regular, part-time basis (e.g., two days a week). Mobile outreach services take Service Canada staff into communities in times of special need (e.g., when a local plant closes or there is a natural disaster).
